I'm a singer-songwriter and best-selling author. My day job, when I had one, was as a journaist. I worked at several major Canadian newspapers and wrote a syndicated column distributed to 300 newspapers across North America. I reported from Europe, Pakistan, Africa, India and Central America - but mostly from Western Canada including the Arctic. My book, Runaway Devil, was seven weeks on the Globe and Mail's national bestseller list.
I picked up a guitar when I was 12, influenced by Sixties folk music and later rock, blues and bluegrass. I came to the latter through mandolin and later picked up the fiddle and the dobro.

The songs I write are reality based, some historical in nature, for which I blame the journalist in me. I also cover alt country, bluegrass, blues and anything that falls loosely under the umbrella of roots music.
